Chapter 10

A Christmas Gift That Demands Practising

Text 1

“It is so difficult when both feet are attached to the board,” says the young girl balancing on top of this year’s favorite Christmas gift.

She is out on the slopes with her boyfriend to test her grandmother’s gift. Being a beginner is not easy when others are overtaking on the left and the right.

“Slalom skis are much better. I have problems finding my balance on this equipment. Braking with skis is much easier too," she comments.

“ You don't brake, you keep going until you fall,” says her friend all covered in wet snow. He is loyally doing his best on a rented board.

All the children in the family were lucky. They all had a complete snowboard outfit for Christmas this year. Even rain could not stop them from practising the very next day.

“ The two last attempts were more successful, because I was able to make some turns. An unexpected difficulty was to get onto the lift. We actually needed some help there!”

“ What kind of help?”

“We had to be taken on a snow scooter to the top of the hill!"
