At the Travel Agency
Travel agency
This coming summer I’m going to the USA for my vacation. Yesterday I went to the travel agent to make all the arrangements for a three week tour around the country. I had no idea how many things were involved in such planning until I got to the office.
Practical details
First I had to decide how to travel from Norway to the USA. Did I want to fly or go by ship? Do you know that it is still possible to go across the Atlantic on a ship? They had several departures from Southampton to the States. It takes almost a week across. Since I only have three weeks, a flight was the natural thing to choose. All the different airlines had special offers. I ended up with a Delta Airline flight via London to New York. They called the ticket an apex airfare, which means it has a reduced price.
Time difference
The travel agent warned me that I should expect a jet lag when I came to America. There is a difference in time between Norway and New York of six hours. When I leave home at about 2 p.m., it is only 8 o’clock in the morning on the other side. That means a 6 hours longer day for a traveler. Your body finds it hard to adjust to the time difference. That is what they call jet lag.
Insurance
Then they asked me if I had a travel insurance. You never know what could happen to you on a trip like this. I know that doctors and hospitals are very expensive in the USA. Therefore I decided to get an insurance to be on the safe side. The crime rate is high in some of the cities. I decided to include a baggage insurance too. It would be terrible to sit in a foreign country without your baggage. The insurance will guarantee that my trip will be a happy one.
