The system in the USA is clearly different from the one we have in our country. In the USA it is based on a blend of public and private health insurance.
More than 75% of the population has private health insurance. They buy their insurance in commercial insurance companies. Some firms provide their employees with their own insurance.
When the employer offers an insurance for its employees, it is called a group health insurance. Then a member of a group of workers buys the insurance through the employer at rates lower than usual.
Private health insurance plans, which are bought through the employer, are the most common form of health insurance in the USA. There is also a tax benefit for the employee in this, because insurance premiums paid by the employer are not taxed. The premium is taken from the salary before taxation. For the individual this is as a benefit and an encouragement to join an insurance plan.
The consequence of this system is that people without any regular place of work, or who are permanently out of work, do not have any health insurance coverage.
Those without work and health insurance are to a great extent between the ages of 18 and 24, black, and from rural areas in the South or West.
