Chapter 3

The Regions

The USA can be divided into four regions; the East coast, the South, the Mid-west and the West coast.

“Snowbelt”

The East coast and the Mid-west are included in the so-called “Snowbelt”. You can expect to have snow there in the winter.

“Sunbelt”

The other two regions are called the “Sunbelt”. They are the part of America where you have the warmest climate. Even the winters are quite comfortable there, especially in Florida, Arizona and California. That also explains why so many retired people from the northern states have moved there. We see the same trend in Europe, old people move from places like Norway to Spain in the winter.

“Biblebelt”

The Mid-west is often called the “Biblebelt”. This is because there are more religious people there than elsewhere. There are not as many big towns here as along the coasts. The countryside has a lot of big farms, which grow grains and beans. A lot of the beef in America comes from this part.
